Kanarraville Falls
Iron County, Utah
About This Waterfall
Kanarraville Falls is a series of waterfalls cascading through a narrow red-rock slot canyon, with the main falls dropping about 20 feet into a swirling pool that glows amber and turquoise depending on the light. The canyon walls squeeze tight enough to touch on both sides, and the water fills the entire slot floor, requiring hikers to wade waist-deep through pools and climb fixed ladders to progress between falls. It is part waterfall hike, part canyoneering adventure, and completely unforgettable.
The trail is 3.5 miles round trip, beginning with a mellow walk along a dirt road before entering the canyon proper. Once in the slot, the character changes dramatically — you are in the water, climbing over slippery rock and ascending metal ladders bolted to the canyon walls. The first waterfall is relatively easy to reach; the second requires more climbing and deeper wading. Each subsequent falls rewards with increasingly dramatic slot canyon scenery.
A permit is required and can be purchased at a kiosk near the trailhead or online through the town of Kanarraville. Spring through fall provides the warmest water, though the canyon stays cool year-round. Neoprene socks and water shoes with good tread are essential — the rocks are slick.
