Bridal Veil Falls
Utah County, Utah
About This Waterfall
Bridal Veil Falls towers 607 feet above Provo Canyon in a dramatic double-cataract plunge that ranks among the tallest waterfalls in the continental United States. The upper and lower tiers cascade down a near-vertical cliff face, the water atomizing into a fine mist that drifts across the canyon floor and dampens the surrounding cottonwoods and box elders. On windy days, the falls sway and dance against the cliff, earning their bridal veil name with an ethereal, gossamer quality.
The hike to the base of the falls is a gentle 1.3-mile round trip along a paved path from the parking area, making it one of the most accessible tall waterfalls in the American West. The trail follows the Provo River through the canyon, with the falls growing steadily more impressive as you approach. A former aerial tramway to the top — once the world's steepest — was destroyed by avalanches and never rebuilt.
Spring runoff from April through June produces the most dramatic flow, though the falls run year-round from Provo Canyon's numerous springs. The canyon is a popular year-round recreation corridor, and fall brings spectacular color to the surrounding maples. Parking can be competitive on summer weekends — arrive early or visit on weekdays.
