Laurel Falls
Sevier County, Tennessee
About This Waterfall
Laurel Falls is an 80-foot tiered waterfall in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, split into upper and lower cascades connected by a natural rock bridge that hikers walk across. The water of Laurel Branch tumbles over moss-covered ledges through a forest of old-growth hemlock and rhododendron. The paved trail is one of the most popular hikes in the entire National Park system.
The 2.6-mile paved round-trip trail climbs steadily through hardwood forest with excellent spring wildflower displays. The path crosses small streams and passes through thick rhododendron tunnels before arriving at the rock bridge between the upper and lower falls.
Late spring brings famous wildflower displays, while October delivers stunning fall color. The trail is extremely popular — arrive before 8 AM to avoid the heaviest crowds. A parking tag is required. Winter visits offer a quieter experience, though ice can make the paved trail treacherous.
