Hen Wallow Falls

About This Waterfall

Hen Wallow Falls is a delicate 90-foot cascade in the Cosby section of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where Hen Wallow Creek starts just two feet wide at the top and fans out to 30 feet as it tumbles down the rock face. The bridal veil effect is especially beautiful when backlit by afternoon sun. The surrounding forest of hemlock and rhododendron creates a lush green amphitheater.

The 4.3-mile round-trip hike on the Gabes Mountain Trail climbs through beautiful hardwood forest, gaining about 900 feet through switchbacks. The Cosby section sees far fewer visitors than the Gatlinburg side, making this a more peaceful waterfall experience.

Spring brings outstanding wildflower displays, and the falls run strongest after winter and spring rains. This is an excellent choice for hikers seeking a quality Smokies waterfall without the crowds.
