Foster Falls
Marion County, Tennessee
About This Waterfall
Foster Falls is a striking 60-foot plunge waterfall in South Cumberland State Park where Little Gizzard Creek drops off the edge of the Cumberland Plateau into a deep sandstone gorge. The gorge walls attract rock climbers from across the Southeast. The gorge setting amplifies the sound of the falls into a reverberating roar.
A boardwalk leads from the parking area to a viewing platform at the top of the falls. More adventurous visitors can descend to the base of the falls in the gorge below. The area is also the trailhead for the famous Fiery Gizzard Trail, one of the most celebrated backpacking routes in Tennessee.
The falls run year-round but are most impressive after rain. Fall color in late October paints the gorge walls with vibrant oranges and reds. The adjacent campground is the only drive-up camping area in South Cumberland State Park.
