Bald River Falls
Monroe County, Tennessee
About This Waterfall
Bald River Falls is a magnificent 90-foot cascade along the Tellico River Road in the Cherokee National Forest, where the Bald River drops in a broad, powerful curtain right beside the road. The volume of water pouring over the wide ledge creates a thunderous roar that fills the narrow river valley. This is one of the most accessible major waterfalls in Tennessee — visible from the highway.
No hiking is required — simply pull off the road into the designated parking area and walk a few steps to view the falls. The Bald River cascades over layered metamorphic rock covered in moss and ferns, framed by lush hemlock and rhododendron.
The falls are impressive year-round but reach peak flow during spring runoff. Fall foliage along the Tellico River corridor is outstanding in late October. The Tellico River Road itself is one of the most scenic drives in east Tennessee.
