Abrams Falls
Blount County, Tennessee
About This Waterfall
Abrams Falls is a powerful 20-foot waterfall in the Cades Cove area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park where the full volume of Abrams Creek crashes over a broad ledge into one of the deepest plunge pools in the Smokies. What the falls lack in height they make up for in sheer volume. The dark, tannin-stained water contrasts dramatically with the pale sandstone ledge.
The 5-mile round-trip trail traverses pine-oak forest on the ridges and hemlock-rhododendron forest along the creek, crossing Arbutus Ridge and following the winding creek through scenic cascades. The moderate difficulty makes this one of the most popular hikes in Cades Cove.
Swimming is extremely dangerous here due to strong undercurrents, and drownings have occurred. The Cades Cove Loop Road can have long traffic delays in summer and fall. Early morning starts help avoid both traffic and trail crowds.
