Raven Cliff Falls
Greenville County, South Carolina
About This Waterfall
Raven Cliff Falls is the tallest waterfall in South Carolina, with Matthews Creek plunging an estimated 420 feet off Raven Cliff Mountain at the Blue Ridge Escarpment near Caesars Head State Park. The massive cascade is visible from a viewing platform at the end of a scenic trail through the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. The sheer scale of the falls against the cliff face is awe-inspiring.
The 4-mile round-trip trail winds through a beautiful high-elevation forest of oak, hickory, and rhododendron with excellent views of the Blue Ridge escarpment. The trail includes a suspension bridge crossing and terminates at an observation platform with a panoramic view of the falls and surrounding mountains. Elevation change is moderate at about 750 feet.
Spring offers the best water flow and wildflower displays. Fall foliage at this elevation peaks in late October and is spectacular. The park is part of the larger Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, one of the most ecologically diverse areas in South Carolina.
