Dingmans Falls

About This Waterfall

Dingmans Falls is the second-tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania at 130 feet, a slender, elegant plunge through a deep hemlock ravine in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The falls drop in a single tier over a ledge of grey sandstone, with the narrow stream creating a graceful column of white water against the dark cliff face. Just downstream, the 80-foot Silverthread Falls adds a second waterfall to the experience — a delicate, thin cascade that threads its way down a mossy rock wall like a strand of silver thread.

The Dingmans Creek Trail begins at the visitor center and guides visitors through a shaded hemlock ravine on a well-maintained boardwalk and paved path. Silverthread Falls appears after just 0.4 miles, and Dingmans Falls is reached a short distance beyond. The total round trip is 1.4 miles with about 250 feet of elevation gain. The trail is partially ADA-accessible, and viewing platforms at both falls provide safe, unobstructed views. A staircase at Dingmans Falls climbs to the top for an aerial perspective.

The falls are best visited in spring when snowmelt produces maximum flow, though they run year-round. The hemlock ravine keeps the trail cool in summer, and fall foliage adds color to the canopy. The visitor center is open seasonally and provides exhibits on the ecology and geology of the Delaware Water Gap. There is no entrance fee. Combine with nearby Raymondskill Falls for a full day of Pocono waterfall exploration.
