Bushkill Falls
Pike County, Pennsylvania
About This Waterfall
Known as the "Niagara of Pennsylvania," Bushkill Falls is a 100-foot cascade surrounded by towering cliffs in a privately-owned nature park that has been welcoming visitors since 1904. The main falls plunge into a deep, mist-filled canyon, and the park encompasses eight waterfalls in total, connected by more than two miles of trails, bridges, and wooden walkways that cling to the cliff faces. The engineering of the walkway system is itself remarkable — wooden platforms jut out over the gorge, providing dizzying views straight down into the churning water below.
The park offers several trail options ranging from 0.25 miles (to the main falls only) to the full 2-mile Red Trail loop that visits all eight waterfalls. The walkways and bridges are generally well-maintained but involve significant stairs and some steep sections. The main falls viewpoint is accessible via a relatively short walk from the entrance, but the more remote falls require progressively more effort. The Blue Trail to Lower Gorge Falls is the most challenging, descending deep into the canyon.
Spring offers the most dramatic water flow across all eight falls. Summer is the busiest season, and the park hosts mining sluice activities, a nature exhibit, and a gift shop. Fall foliage season is spectacular, with the gorge canopy turning brilliant colors above the dark water. The park charges an admission fee and is open April through November. Arrive early on holiday weekends — the parking lot fills quickly.
