Munson Creek Falls
Tillamook County, Oregon
About This Waterfall
Munson Creek Falls is a 319-foot tiered cascade that holds the title of tallest waterfall in the Oregon Coast Range. The water threads its way down a narrow, forested canyon through a series of drops over mossy basalt, visible from a viewpoint at the end of a gentle quarter-mile woodland trail. Though the full height is obscured by the dense forest, the visible lower tiers are impressive — a silver ribbon threading through an ancient grove of Sitka spruce and western red cedar that feels untouched by time.
The 0.5-mile round-trip trail is one of the easiest waterfall walks in Oregon, winding through an old-growth forest floor carpeted with sword ferns, oxalis, and moss. Massive fallen logs line the trail, some spanning eight feet in diameter. The path is flat and well-maintained, accessible to all ages and fitness levels, with just 90 feet of elevation change. A short spur trail leads to a closer viewpoint of the lower falls.
Tucked away just 8 miles south of Tillamook and a mile and a half off Highway 101, Munson Creek Falls sees far fewer visitors than the Gorge waterfalls despite being easily accessible. Visit in winter or spring for peak water flow. The park has a small gravel parking area but no restrooms or fees.
