Window Falls

This distinctive cascade flows through a remarkable rock formation that creates a natural window effect, making it one of North Carolina's most photogenic waterfalls. The moderately challenging trail winds through mixed hardwood forest typical of the Piedmont region, featuring rocky sections and moderate elevation changes. The well-maintained path is suitable for most fitness levels, though the final approach requires careful footing over rock surfaces near the falls.

Visit during spring for the most reliable water flow, or within a day or two after significant rainfall when the falls are at their most impressive. Early morning visits offer peaceful surroundings and optimal lighting for photography. Sturdy hiking shoes with good traction are essential, as rocks near the falls can be slippery when wet.
