Triple Falls
North Carolina
About This Waterfall
This magnificent three-tiered cascade tumbles 120 feet over granite ledges in DuPont State Recreational Forest, creating distinct drops that can be viewed from multiple angles. Famous as a filming location for Hollywood blockbusters including The Hunger Games and The Last of the Mohicans, the waterfall's natural beauty and photogenic granite surroundings make it one of western North Carolina's most popular destinations.
The well-maintained trail winds through diverse forest ecosystems, crossing wooden bridges and passing smaller cascades before reaching the main viewing platforms. Multiple vantage points allow visitors to experience different perspectives of the falls, with opportunities to extend the adventure by continuing to nearby Hooker Falls and High Falls for an excellent waterfall-hopping experience.
Visit during early morning or late afternoon for optimal lighting and smaller crowds. Spring provides the most dramatic water flow and wildflower displays, while fall offers stunning foliage. Proper footwear with good traction is essential as granite surfaces can become slippery when wet. Arrive early during peak seasons to secure parking at the popular Hooker Falls trailhead.
