Triple Falls
Transylvania County, North Carolina
About This Waterfall
Triple Falls is a stunning 120-foot waterfall in DuPont State Recreational Forest that drops in three distinct tiers over broad shelves of ancient granite. Each tier creates its own character — the upper drop is a narrow plunge, the middle tier fans out across a wide ledge, and the lower section slides gracefully into a pool below. The falls were featured in the movie The Hunger Games, adding to their fame.
The well-maintained trail from the Hooker Falls parking area follows the Little River upstream through a beautiful mixed hardwood forest. Multiple viewpoints along the trail offer different perspectives, including a dramatic overlook from above and a trail that leads to the base. The forest here is a pleasant mix of oak, poplar, and mountain laurel.
Visit in spring for peak water flow or late October for spectacular fall color reflecting in the river. Summer is popular for swimming at nearby Hooker Falls. The three-waterfall loop connecting Hooker Falls, Triple Falls, and High Falls is one of the most popular hikes in western North Carolina.
