Lower Cascade Falls

This beautiful cascade tumbles down a series of rocky ledges through a peaceful mountain forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The waterfall features multiple tiers that create a stunning visual display as water flows over moss-covered rocks and fallen logs, making it a photographer's delight during peak flow periods in spring and after heavy rainfall.

The trail follows an old logging road before transitioning to a narrower footpath that winds through mixed hardwood forest. Hikers will cross several small streams and navigate some rocky sections, but the well-maintained trail is suitable for most fitness levels. The moderate difficulty comes primarily from the steady uphill climb and occasional root-covered terrain rather than technical challenges.

Visit during spring months for the most impressive water flow, and consider bringing a camera with a polarizing filter to capture the cascading water through the forest canopy. The trail can be muddy after rain, so waterproof hiking boots are recommended. While swimming isn't practical due to the shallow pools and rocky terrain, the falls provide an excellent spot for a rest and snack before the return hike.
