Looking Glass Falls

About This Waterfall

This iconic 60-foot plunge waterfall along the Blue Ridge Parkway stands as one of Western North Carolina's most photographed natural attractions. The dramatic cascade drops straight down from a granite cliff face into a deep emerald pool, creating a thunderous roar and refreshing mist that can be felt from the viewing area. Its year-round flow and stunning backdrop make it a favorite among photographers and nature lovers alike.

The short paved trail from the large parking area descends gradually through a beautiful forest setting, though it does include some steps and moderately steep sections near the falls. Despite being only a tenth of a mile, the path offers glimpses of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and builds anticipation as the sound of rushing water grows stronger with each step.

Visit during early morning or late afternoon hours to avoid peak crowds, especially during fall foliage season when traffic can be heavy. The falls are particularly spectacular after rainfall when water volume increases dramatically. Winter visitors may encounter ice formations, but should exercise extra caution on potentially slippery surfaces.
