Hooker Falls
Transylvania County, North Carolina
About This Waterfall
Hooker Falls is a wide, powerful 14-foot waterfall on the Little River in DuPont State Recreational Forest that makes up in breadth and character what it lacks in height. The entire river pours over a broad granite ledge, creating a curtain of whitewater that stretches across the full width of the riverbed. Below the falls, a large natural swimming pool attracts summer visitors for swimming and wading.
The trail from the Hooker Falls parking area is a gentle, well-graded path that takes less than 15 minutes to reach the falls. The wide, flat trail passes through open forest and is accessible to most fitness levels. A wooden viewing platform provides an excellent overlook of the falls and pool below.
This is the perfect first stop on the popular three-waterfall loop in DuPont Forest that continues upstream to Triple Falls and High Falls. Summer is the most popular season for swimming, but the falls are beautiful year-round. Early morning visits offer the best photography light and the fewest crowds. Dog-friendly trails make this a popular destination for pet owners.
