Bridal Veil Falls
North Carolina
About This Waterfall
This dramatic 120-foot plunge waterfall drops straight down a sheer granite cliff face in the Nantahala National Forest, creating one of western North Carolina's most spectacular and photographed cascades. The powerful water flow creates a thunderous roar and produces mist that can be felt from the viewing area at the base.
The well-maintained trail follows an old logging road through mature hardwood forest before transitioning to a more rugged path near the falls. Hikers cross a wooden footbridge and navigate rocky terrain that becomes slippery from waterfall mist, requiring sturdy footwear for the final approach to the viewing platform.
Spring offers the most impressive water volume from snowmelt and seasonal rains, while roadside parking fills quickly during peak times. Arriving early morning or late afternoon provides the best experience with fewer crowds. The rocky areas near the base offer excellent photography opportunities, though caution is needed on wet surfaces.
