Lost Creek Falls

About This Waterfall

Lost Creek Falls is a charming seasonal waterfall hidden in a narrow sandstone canyon within Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, just 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. The falls cascade down the red and cream sandstone walls into a grotto surrounded by cottonwoods and willows, creating a lush oasis that seems impossible in the Mojave Desert. The contrast between the harsh, sun-baked desert above and the cool, green canyon below is startling. The red rock formations framing the falls glow with warm color, especially in morning and late afternoon light.

The Lost Creek Trail is a very easy 0.7-mile round trip with just 165 feet of elevation change, making it one of the most accessible waterfall hikes near Las Vegas. A boardwalk section protects the fragile riparian grasses, and the trail ends at a viewing platform near the base of the falls. Benches along the way provide rest stops. The short distance and gentle grade make this perfect for families with young children or anyone looking for a quick, scenic walk. The nearby Petroglyph Wall trail adds an archaeological dimension to the visit.

The falls are seasonal, flowing from December through April when rain and snowmelt from the Spring Mountains feed the creek. By summer the falls typically run dry. Red Rock Canyon requires a timed reservation from October 1 through May 31, available up to 30 days in advance. The scenic drive that accesses the trailhead costs $15 per vehicle. Visit in late winter or early spring for the best chance of seeing the falls flowing.
