Ocqueoc Falls

Ocqueoc Falls is the largest waterfall in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, a broad cascade on the Ocqueoc River that drops about 10 feet over a wide ledge of dark limestone in a forested setting near the town of Millersburg. While modest in height compared to the Upper Peninsula's giants, Ocqueoc Falls is notable as the only universally-accessible waterfall in the United States — the entire trail system is designed for wheelchair access, making it a pioneering example of inclusive outdoor recreation. The wide, spreading cascade and the calm pools above and below make it a popular wading and picnic spot.

The falls are reached via a short, fully paved path from the parking area. The Ocqueoc Falls Bicentennial Pathway offers 6.3 miles of hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing loops through the surrounding Mackinaw State Forest. The falls area has picnic tables, grills, and a rustic campground, making it a pleasant destination for a family outing. The shallow pools above and below the falls are excellent for wading and cooling off on summer days.

Summer is the prime season for wading and picnicking, while fall foliage in northern Michigan provides a colorful backdrop. Spring brings the highest water volume. The adjacent state forest campground offers rustic sites right along the river. Ocqueoc Falls is about 30 miles west of Rogers City on M-68, making it an easy stop on a Northern Michigan road trip.
