Fall Creek Falls
Bonneville County, Idaho
About This Waterfall
Fall Creek Falls is a stunning 60-foot cascade that emerges directly from the canyon wall of the Snake River, spring water gushing from the porous basalt in a wide curtain that drops into the river below. The water source is entirely underground — there is no creek above the falls, just volcanic rock that filters snowmelt through miles of subsurface channels before releasing it in this dramatic cliff-side eruption. The falls are visible from the road and from a scenic overlook.
The viewpoint is accessible via a short pulloff along US-26 in the Snake River canyon between Idaho Falls and Swan Valley. A brief walk from the parking area leads to a viewing platform overlooking the falls and the river below. For a closer experience, kayakers and rafters on the Snake River can paddle directly beneath the falls — one of the premier float-trip highlights in eastern Idaho.
The underground water source means the falls flow year-round at a relatively consistent rate, though spring brings slightly higher volume. The drive along US-26 through the Snake River canyon is scenic in any season, with opportunities for fishing, floating, and wildlife viewing. Bald eagles nest along this stretch of river.
