Waimea Falls

About This Waterfall

Waimea Falls is a 45-foot cascade that drops into a deep, swimmable pool in the lush Waimea Valley on Oahu's North Shore. While not the tallest waterfall in Hawaii, it may be the most welcoming — visitors are encouraged to swim in the pool at the base, with lifeguards on duty and life jackets provided. The water slides over a mossy rock face into the clear, cool pool, surrounded by towering tropical trees and the sounds of native birds. It feels less like visiting a waterfall and more like discovering a secret swimming hole in paradise.

The 1.5-mile round-trip walk follows a paved botanical garden path through over 5,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants, including rare native Hawaiian species, towering mango trees, and fragrant plumeria groves. The valley is a living museum of Hawaiian culture with archaeological sites and interpretive stations along the way. The gentle, flat path is accessible to strollers and wheelchairs, making this one of the most family-friendly waterfall experiences in Hawaii.

Waimea Valley is a nonprofit botanical garden and cultural center, and the entrance fee ($25 adults, $14 children) supports conservation and cultural preservation. Located directly across from famous Waimea Bay on the North Shore, it pairs perfectly with a beach day. Open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM. The falls occasionally close for swimming after heavy rain due to high water levels.
