About This Waterfall
Toccoa Falls is a stunning 186-foot free-fall waterfall — 19 feet taller than Niagara Falls — located on the campus of Toccoa Falls College in the Blue Ridge foothills. The water drops in a single unbroken column from an overhanging rock ledge into a misty pool below, framed by dark rock walls draped in ferns and moss. The vertical drop and narrow stream create an elegant, ribbon-like appearance.
The walk from the visitor center and gift shop to the base of the falls is just 100 yards on a mostly flat, ADA-accessible path. This makes Toccoa Falls one of the most easily accessible tall waterfalls in the Southeast. The falls are privately owned by the college but open to the public for a small admission fee.
The falls run year-round and maintain a steady flow even during drier months. Winter can produce impressive ice formations on the rock face. The morning sun lights the falls beautifully. The falls have a somber history — a dam failure above the falls in 1977 caused a tragic flood that killed 39 people.
