Amicalola Falls
Dawson County, Georgia
About This Waterfall
Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in Georgia at 729 feet, with water pouring down a dramatic series of drops along a steep mountain face in Amicalola Falls State Park. The Cherokee named it Amicalola, meaning tumbling waters, and the name perfectly captures the way the creek cascades down the forested mountainside in a seemingly endless series of steps and slides.
The 2-mile Amicalola Falls Loop Trail provides multiple perspectives of the falls, including a climb up and down over 600 stairs along the East Ridge. A mid-level ADA-accessible path offers views without the strenuous stair climb. The park also serves as the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail approach trail.
Spring brings the best water flow and wildflower displays, while fall color in late October is exceptional. The park offers a lodge, cabins, and camping for overnight visitors. This is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the entire Southeast and should not be missed on any Georgia waterfall tour.
