Glory Hole Falls
Ozark County, Arkansas
About This Waterfall
Glory Hole Falls is one of the most unique waterfalls in Arkansas, where Dismal Creek flows through a hole in the center of an overhanging bluff and plunges 31 feet into a cave-like grotto below. The water literally pours through the ceiling of a natural rock shelter, creating an otherworldly scene. When frozen in winter, the falls transform into a stunning column of ice hanging from the bluff.
The 2-mile round-trip trail descends through Ozark forest to the base of the falls. The outbound trail is downhill, making the return hike the more strenuous half. The trail passes through typical Ozark hardwood forest with limestone outcrops and seasonal wildflowers.
The falls are highly seasonal — best viewed in fall through spring or after heavy rain. Summer usually reduces the flow to a trickle. Winter ice formations are spectacular and draw photographers from across the region. The unusual pour-through-the-ceiling formation makes this unlike any other waterfall in the Ozarks.
